Teaching

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

The first thing the Scripture is profitable for is teaching. The teaching of the word brings reproof, correction and training in righteousness, in this way every man or woman of God can be complete and equipped, armed and ready for every good work that God has for them. The teaching of the Word of God is how our minds and hearts are renewed and transformed, as we begin to understand the will of God.

Isaiah 28:9-10 “To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, hear a little, they're a little.”

In order to understand the Word of God, we must recognise the way in which God speaks. It is here a little, there a little. We are given insight as to how God is revealing His Word to us. It is a Scripture here and a Scripture there throughout the various books of the Bible, and progressively we build a precept (in other words, a teaching or a rule).

As Jesus was here in the flesh, it was the foundation of his ministry to the people,

Matthew 4:34 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

We see here that teaching and proclaiming of the gospel went before the healing of the people. It is the basis upon which every other provision and blessing from the gospel comes. As Jesus is ready to ascend to be with the Father, he gives one final command to the disciples:

Matthew 28:19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

"Disciple" = mathétés / μαθητής in Greek, which means "a learner, pupil, disciple", 'one who learns the doctrines of Scripture and lifestyle it requires, someone catechized with proper instruction from the Bible with its necessary follow through. The final commandment of the Lord is to make disciples, or to make "students". How could one make a student? Jesus gives us the answer... "teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you".
